Arts Education with Festival Theatre
We believe learning through the arts develops individuals that are team players, innovative thinkers, multi-versed interpreters, and compassionate, tolerant members of society.
Socially, intellectually, creatively, and emotionally, individuals who experience the arts on a regular basis are better equipped to meet the challenges of our changing world… And it’s also a whole bunch of FUN!

Student Matinees are specially scheduled weekday performances for student groups and educators. For only $5 per student, classes enjoy a professional theatre performance, a question-answer session with the cast, and a resource guide of supplemental material and activities.
At Festival Theatre, part of our Arts Education mission is to make quality professional theatre financially accessible to students and educators. A 2014 study published in Science Daily concluded that "field trips to live theater enhance literary knowledge, tolerance and empathy among students." Click here to read more.

At Festival Theatre, we believe that every child deserves a voice. Our summer drama camp Art in Action empowers young creators to express themselves through their art and gain self-confidence in the creative process. Each camper is challenged to let their imagination run wild in our week-long art exploration. Our teaching artists are all members of our summer acting company and come with a wide variety of artistic backgrounds.
Starting at 8:30 am and running until 12:00 pm, these camps are ideal for students ages 7-13. Although the structure of the weeks will be nearly identical, the content will differ making it possible for campers to
attend more than one week.

As part of our Arts Education mission, Festival Theatre provides a number of opportunities for youth actors in areas of performance, design, and stage management. Performance opportunities include roles in both our Youth and Family series and our Theatre series.
Each season, our Youth and Family series stage two children's theatre productions with youth actors from the area. The youth actors are joined by professional actor-educators who mentor them through the six-week
rehearsal process with supplemental workshops on such topics as actor movement and voice.

Theatre Resource Guides |
Festival Theatre invites students to get the most out of their theatre visit by understanding the world beyond the play. Theatre Resource Guides introduce the playwright, characters, themes and issues raised in the play via classroom activities, discussion questions, and scenes to read aloud. The guides are designed to be classroom-ready, allowing educators to duplicate materials for easy distribution to students.
