Rothrock has performed as a solo artist at a variety of venues around the United States, including Birdland (NYC), Bluebird Café (Nashville), Davenports Cabaret (Chicago), Bryant Lake Bowl (Minneapolis), and Hell’s Kitchen (Minneapolis).
A graduate of Luther College (B.A. Music/Theatre) and Western Michigan University (M.M. Vocal Performance) Lynne is a vocalist/entertainer plus an arts educator. In addition to the main stage concert, she will also conduct a Song Performance Workshop for students at Unity High School in Balsam Lake. The students from Unity are under the direction of vocal educator Kyle Hammers. This masterclass experience will take place at the school, culminating in students performing with Lynne and the band at Saturday’s concert.
Lynne has developed a niche for coaching solo performers to truly "act the song" and bring all the elements of performance into their vocal presentations. After doing workshops with the music and theatre departments at Luther College, St. Ambrose University, Morningside College, American College Theatre Festival - as well as working with countless high school aged singers at various competitions, Lynne is now making these workshops available to other schools or arts organizations. Her combination of training in vocal technique and theatre enables her to address issues from both areas and lead students to a combination of peak vocal production and truly artistic presentation. These workshops are flexible in format and the students have the opportunity to develop their own performance skills, learn from watching their peers perform - and they also will leave with a set of tools with which to approach future work.
Lynne is equally comfortable working with soloists and ensembles. She offers a concert/workshop package where she works with a vocal ensemble and has them join her in a culminating concert. Lynne can arrive in a community prior to the concert day and work with individual singers on almost any style of repertoire in a masterclass setting. She has done masterclass and guest lecture work at a number of colleges and music conventions. Unity students will be joining her on stage at Festival Theatre as part of this workshop training.
"Information informed by experience. Her workshops speak to the skilled singer as well as the novice,” states Dr. Cory Johnson, Professor of Theatre at St. Ambrose University. “Lynne is fun, funny and gets fantastic results. Really worth the money!"
Lynne’s band, The Mood Swingers, is comprised of Iowa Blues & Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Ron DeWitte, keyboardist Gerard Estella of Queens, NY, bass player Dave Ollinger of Milwaukee, WI and drummer Greg Kanz of Cedar Rapids, IA. Lynne and company will also be joined by local trumpet player Brad Anderson on several tunes.
Tickets are $21 in advance, $26 at the door, and this concert is Flex Pass eligible.
