It’s a new twist on a perennial need: local artists supporting our local performing arts company. All are invited to visit the second annual Artists for the Arts event at Festival Theatre in downtown St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin.

In conjunction with the opening weekend of "A Christmas Story" on Saturday and Sunday, November 30th and December 1st, up to ten visual artists will have their works for sale at Festival Theatre.  Sculpture, oil paintings, fiber art, pottery, metalwork, wood carvings, original screen printed designs and hand printed clothing will be on display in the Elbow Room.  Artists for the Arts will generously donate twenty percent of their proceeds to Festival Theatre in support of programming that serves residents and visitors to the St. Croix Valley.

Participating artists include Fred Bechtold and Susan Heaven, oil painting; Julie Crabtree, stitchery art landscapes; Andrea Leila Denecke, pottery; Hannah and Ann Fawver, clothing and jewelry; Jon Michael Route, metalwork; Kevin Seeland, wood carving; James Shoop, bronze sculpture; and Lynn Eva Skoog, paper sculpture.

The gallery will open on Saturday, November 30th at 2:00 pm, and Sunday, December 1st at 12:00 noon. The art show will stay open for one hour after the theatre performances end, until roughly 10:00 pm for the Saturday show and 6:00 pm for the Sunday matinee.

Following the Sunday matinee, an Afterglow Party will be held in the Act II Café, where patrons can mingle with the participating artists plus the actors from “A Christmas Story.” This will take the place of the usual Talkback Session, which normally follows a matinee. Beverage service will be available.

The driving force behind Artists for the Arts is the desire of local artists to support one another in unique and creative ways, so all can flourish and continue to create inspiring works of art. Those coming to see the holiday production “A Christmas Story” on opening weekend can plan to arrive early to allow ample time to walk through the displays. The whole community is invited to come and browse, even if not attending the show. You may find the perfect gift for yourself or a friend, and help support the arts at the same time. After all, you have been good!

And before any of this happens, you can see the cast of “A Christmas Story” in the Lighting Festival parade on Friday, November 29th at 6:00 pm in Taylors Falls, Minnesota. Come and enjoy a full weekend of holiday celebrations.
