PictureThe Fiddle Masters will perform at Festival Theatre on June 19 at 8:00 PM
After a full line up since the start of the New Year, Festival Theatre’s 2015 Music Series continues with plenty of events for the second half of the year.  Brian Wicklund is a Festival favorite and has been on Festival’s stage with The Barley Jacks and The Fiddle Masters.

Brian Wicklund has been an integral part of the acoustic music scene for decades. As a teenager, he won dozens of fiddle contests and has toured internationally with Stoney Lonesome, Judith Edelman Band, Kathy Kallick Band, Chris Stuart Band, and with Brother Mule. He is a busy studio musician and producer with dozens of projects to his credit. Brian wrote the best-selling American Fiddle Method published by Mel Bay and is in constant demand as a teacher worldwide.

On June 19th at 8:00 PM Festival welcomes back The Fiddle Masters with Brian Wicklund. St. Croix Valley native and internationally-known fiddler Brian Wicklund has hosted his wildly successful American Fiddle Camps in Stillwater, MN for the past seven years.  He brings in master musicians from around the country to teach at his camp.  Together they perform a concert of enormous talent, variety and fun.  In 2011 and 2014 this show performed to sold-out audience’s and was one of the highlights of the seasons.  This year includes Brian Wicklund, Scottish fiddler Katie McNally, bluegrass fiddler Shauncey Ali, Appalachian fiddler Emily Schaad, guitarist Flynn Cohan, mandolin player Ben Winship, and bassist Kevin Rowe.

Festival Theatre opens their 25th Anniversary Season

Festival Theatre has pulled out all the stops to celebrate the 25th Anniversary Season – Producing Live Theatre in St. Croix Falls, with a lineup that is exciting, fresh, challenging and engaging.  As the artists start to rehearse, Festival prepares for a season of music, humor, drama and a whole lot of fun!

Festival kicks off the season with ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ from Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (the composer of Disney's ‘Aladdin’, ‘The Little Mermaid’, and ‘Tangled’) and directed by Artistic Director Jaclyn Johnson.  Seth Kaltwasser, Festival’s former Development Director, returns to perform as Seymour.  This classic from 1982 has been a hit on and off Broadway, and a film version made Hollywood sing in 1986.  Delighting audiences all over the world for over 30 years, this rock musical will have you engulfed in fun.  This show opens as Festival celebrates its 25thAnniversary on Saturday, June 20 at 7:30 PM and preview night will be Thursday, June 18 at 7:30PM.

On July 4 2:00 PM Festival will open the fast-paced, hilarious ‘Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised]’ written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield. This bit of comic gold features three overachieving actors attempting to perform renditions of all thirty-seven of Shakespeare’s plays in just ninety-seven minutes.  Witty and physical, it is sure to leave audiences aching from laughter, be they Shakespeare lovers, haters or know nothing about Shakespeare. This show will be performed in the street level performance space, the Elbow Room, and has limited seating.

‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ will be Festival’s third production in the summer rotating repertory and will open on Saturday August 1 at 7:30 PM. Directed by Mark Baer, who most recently directed Festival’s opening musical last year, ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum’, this show is one of American theatre's best loved plays from the dramatic artistry of Tennessee Williams. The play centers on one of theatre's most iconic women, the fading Southern belle, Blanche DuBois, played by Artistic Director, Jaclyn Johnson.

“Tennessee Williams has more in commen with Shakespeare, his words are poetry; characters live very close to the surface.  They speak their thoughts and feelings as they feel and think them and that’s what makes watching and performing Tennessee Williams’ plays an intense, emotional experience.” says Baer.

Festival Theatre's youth summer program now includes a Creativity Camp in Grantsburg.  Festival’s 2015 Creativity Camps for youth ages 5-12 will also be offered in St. Croix Falls, Clear Lake, and Luck.

The Creativity Camps are environmentally-themed, multi-arts day camps and will be held at St. Croix Falls, WI July 6 -10  and August 3 -7; Grantsburg, WI July 20 – 17 (new addition); Clear Lake, WI July 13 – 17; Luck, WI August 10 -14 . Creativity campers experience joy in exploring their unique creative impulses and gain confidence for life.  The Campers will work in four artistic disciplines each day: visual art, drama, literary arts, and creative movement. Youth will participate in book making, storytelling, poetry, journaling, play acting, imaginative prop play, drama exercises, vocal technique, kinesthetic expression, drawing, painting, sculpture, and puppetry.

Teaching artists from around the country who perform in Festival Theatre's summer repertory, these camps emphasize solid instruction in proper technique and a child's personal satisfaction with his/her work.  "We believe learning through the arts develops individuals that are team players, innovative thinkers, multi-versed interpreters, and compassionate, tolerant members of society," states Seth Kaltwasser, Festival Theatre actor and teaching artist. "Socially, intellectually, creatively, and emotionally, individuals who experience the arts on a regular basis are better equipped to meet the challenges of our changing world."  He adds, "It's also a whole lot of fun!"  Fees for the camp are only $85 per week per child which includes all supplies.  Creativity Camp is held Monday through Friday 8:30-3:30 for ages 5-12 and sharing for parents and friends will be held Fridays at 2:00 pm.

Also, Festival will be offering mini creativity camps at local libraries, check your library for dates.  These mini camps are free, one day only and are a great opportunity for your child to be introduced to the arts and run about an hour.

Festival Theatre is able to offer affordable youth programs thanks to our lead Corporate Youth and Family Sponsor, Royal Credit Union; Festival has also received funding from the St. Croix Valley Foundation and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin.
