Twelve Angry Jurors

St. Croix Festival Theatre will present a staged reading of Twelve Angry Jurors on Friday, February 2nd, 7:30PM. Tickets are $15 and the cafe will be open.

Jason Richards, the theatre's Executive Artistic Director, performed in Death of a Salesman and in the theatre’s only staged reading last year, The Diary of Anne Frank. “It was really well received. If you were lucky enough to see it, then you know what a powerful night of theatre a staged reading can be,” shares Richards.

A staged reading requires no set and no costumes. It's a straightforward dramatic retelling of a script. Richards believes that Twelve Angry Jurors is perfect for the staged reading format.

“You get to focus on the message of the script and the relationships,” says Richards. “I also think this is a particularly timely story. Every day we’re asking ourselves if what we hear is true or not. These jurors have to do it when a life is on the line. It really brings up some strong, current issues.”

For those interested in the attending the reading, tickets are $15 and can be purchased by following this link, by emailing festivaltheatreboxoffice@gmail.com or by calling the box office at 715-483-3387.

READING: Mark Peacock and LaMoine MacLaughlin at Festival Theatre

Mark Peacock and LaMoine MacLaughlin, two nationally known and respected writers, will have a reading at St. Croix Festival Theatre on January 20th at 7:30PM. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds go to support the theatre.

Peacock, a fiction writer, and MacLaughlin, a poet, met a dozen years ago at a MacLaughlin’s church. Peacock says, “They had asked me to read the 2nd chapter of Luke at their church, so I did and then it's kind of grown from there.”

Peacock came to fiction late in life. He was first a freelance columnist: “I knew I'd get paid for an article and the market for fiction was very thin, I mean, for fiction maybe 6 months later you'd get a check or a rejection notice. We had to eat so I couldn't do it then. Only after I retired I thought I had some time.”

He’s used that time well. A chaplain at Good Samaritan, Peacock says he would always see people reading on their phones or tablets on their break. “I wanted to write something you could read in that amount of time, and then get back to work, having finished the story.”  Break Time Stories were born. He has four collections available on Amazon Kindle and the first three have been compiled into a paperback, The First Gathering of the Break Time Stories.

Peacock gets inspiration from many places, but the latest came from close to home. “The genesis is stories I used to tell my kids. A lot of them they’re kind of mangled fairy tales, tales that kind of get stood on their head, for example Jack and the Bean Sprouts or The Little Red Hoodie. But in writing them down they give me a chance to deal with some ethical issues, like is suicide heroic or is it a waste, and what do you really do with poverty? Big questions, but told plainly.”

The event is a donation to the Festival Theatre. Peacock wanted to support the theatre, but didn’t know how. “I haven't got any money but I want to support Festival, always have. The idea for this originally came when I was reading at the Saint Croix Falls Library and I thought here's something I can do.”

For those interested in the attending the reading in and supporting Festival Theatre, tickets are $10 and can be purchased at FestivalTheatre.org, by emailing festivaltheatreboxoffice@gmail.com or by calling the box office at 715-483-3387.

PictureMembers of the 2017 Intern/Apprentice Class with Guest Artists
Oh, how dearly we miss our 2017 Intern and Apprentice Class - it seems like only yesterday that this fabulous group of young women were taking the Festival Theatre stage by storm in our summer musical 1776! But 2018 waits for no man (nor woman neither,) so it is ONWARD!

Festival Theatre is currently accepting applications for our 2018 Intern and Apprentice Company. A position in the I/A Company means working shoulder to shoulder with the Festival Theatre staff and professional guest artists from all around the country to create a summer season of bold, audacious live theatre in the St. Croix River Valley.

Festival Theatre will be attending the Twin Cities Unified Theatre Auditions, a CLIMB Theatre
audition event, February 24th and 25th at Concordia University in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Registration for the TCUTAs is due February 15th and you can register online by clicking here. **Do not call Concordia University.**

Festival Theatre’s Internship/Apprenticeship Program offers participants...

On Stage Experience - Interns and apprentices will perform a role or understudy a role in at least two of our three summer shows.
Design and Stage Management Opportunities - Interns and apprentices with experience and interest are often considered for design, stage management and assistant positions throughout the summer.
An Enriching Workshop Series -  Our series of (weekly) workshops will allow for unique experiences with the ultimate goal of individual growth as a performer, teammate, artist, teaching artist and human being.
Teaching Artist Experience - Interns and apprentices will work closely with Arts Education Director Rachel Kuhnle in leading Art In Action - Festival Theatre’s summer drama camp - for community youth ages 5 -12. Teaching Artists are paid an hourly fee.
Improv Experience - All summer company members participate in weekly improv shows on Friday nights in July and August. Improvers explore short and long form improv and get a split of the house.
Involvement In Production / Administrative Teams - Teams include Scenic Carpentry, Stage Management, Box Office/House Management, Administrative Assistance, Marketing and Development.
Front of House Experience - Interns and apprentices also get to spend time crafting the patron experience by working occasional box office and house management shifts.
Stipends - Interns and apprentices receive a small stipend competitive with similar programs.
